Hi friend, I’m Amparo.

I’m a licensed clinical mental health counselor (with over 20 years experience) and a health & mindset Clini-Coach©️. I’m a parent to a school-aged kiddo and live with my spouse in the beautiful mountains of Western NC.

I spent at least 25+ years wrestling with yo-yo dieting, food restriction/overexercise, dissatisfaction with my body image, and searching for “the magic pill” to end my complicated relationship with food and my body. It was also difficult to find resources out there for a person of color or someone from other marginalized communities because it seemed like these issues “were only for white girls”. 

This is not something to do alone, so I worked with my own health coaches to heal my relationship with food and my body and it was a game changer for me. And now I’m paying it forward by helping others who are on their journey to their best selves!

I have developed a deep passion for helping people learn to find balance in their lives and develop a healthy relationship with food and their bodies.

That’s where a coach can come in, to help you arrive at the solutions to some of your issues around your relationship with food and your body and help you figure out your next step.

A Therapist

While I am a licensed clinical mental health therapist, in this situation, I am not YOUR therapist. I will be utilizing information from my clinical training, and yet, I will not be conducting a mental health therapy session. If the coaching sessions dig into something that would be better addressed in a therapeutic setting, I will recommend that you discuss this with another licensed clinician.

Our coaching sessions will feel easy and relaxed because I enjoy connecting with people; however, I am a licensed professional and hold to a code of ethics that discourages dual relationships with my clients (even if you’re super-cool and I would love to have coffee with you). 

A Crutch

Our sessions come as a package for a reason – there is a start and end date so that I can “work myself out of a job”. The goal of coaching is to give you the skills that you need and gently nudge you out of the nest. I want you to be able to take it from there and put your new tools into action. Sure, you’ll have some stumbles, and if you need to check in with me, you can, although my hope is that you won’t need me (because you’ve got it)!

Q: Why does this program take so long? Can’t I get this done faster?

A: This process could actually take longer, as there is a LOT of information to cover. This is a journey that takes time, patience and grace to unlearn a way of thinking and learn new concepts. At the end of the course, I will encourage you to continue to practice what you’ve learned in order to create lasting and sustainable change. 

Q: Is this a diet program?

A: This is the opposite of a diet program; a diet is a set of rules around eating, that has a start date and an end date. This program focuses on breaking free from those external dieting rules that you have learned over the years and creating habits that you can keep for the rest of your life. We will discuss food and nutrition in neutral terms, taking the “good” and “bad” labels off of food to help you learn how to relax your rules around food, thus ending guilt and shame after eating.

Q: Do I have to live in NC to join this program?

A: No, this is a virtual program – you can purchase the self-study program and join the Facebook group from ANYWHERE in the world!

Q: Will you recommend/endorse a specific way of eating?

A: No, I’m not a dietician, so I won’t tell you what to eat. We will talk about paying attention to how certain foods make you FEEL after eating them to help you make small adjustments to link certain foods with certain functions (such as energy or relaxation), or including foods for various occasions (such as birthday cake!). 

Q: What will I need to get the most out of this program?

A: You will need an open mind and a willingness to change. This is a mindset program, so we’ll be exploring thoughts and beliefs that are no longer serving you, and you’ll replace them with new thoughts and habits that you can live with. This will be challenging because you’ll have to confront limiting beliefs that you’ve held onto for a while that aren’t working anymore (definition of insanity, anyone?) and be willing to try something new, even if “you’ve tried it before”. 

 Q: What if I still want to lose weight?

A: Well, that’s totally your choice – it’s normal to feel that way! During this program, however, I will suggest that you shift your focus from a specific weight goal or number on the scale to a wider lens of who you want to be when this process is over (your identity).

We will then identify the healthy habits that you want to develop in order to achieve this identity (such as exercising on a regular basis, adding more greens, drinking more water, getting more sleep, etc.).

You will find that your body will adjust accordingly without having to focus only on the number on the scale (you’ll be happy, trust me).

There are so many other ways to measure progress – we call them Non-scale victories – these include:

  •      How do your clothes feel?
  •      Have you gained more confidence and             self-esteem?
  •      Do you have more energy?
  •      Are you sleeping better?
